I have searched, without success, to find out the thread/pitch of the 6.0 engine drain plug (Drivers side). I want to install a coolent temp probe in there but want to insure I have the correct adapter (s) I may need BEFORE I drain the coolent! I want to assume that it is M16X1.5 male, but I can not verify it in the 6.0 service manual I have (on cd). Also wanted to know the torque value. What enterprising person can tell me these figures?
For coolant temp, look on the block at the back on the driver side. There is a plug that you can remove and install an adapter (Autometer PN 2268 IIRC) which will adapt the 16X1.5mm (male) plug hole to 1/8 NPT (female) for the temp probe ($6.45 at Diesel Manor link below).
Thanks Mark...I already have a gauge and (attached) probe, just NOT Autometer. Now I don't have to adapt anything.... the probe nut already is 16X1.5 mm male. While at All Trucks in Carlisle last week , bought the gauge for 5 bucks!
Now to be sure that I'm removing the correct plug in the engine, is it the plug below the freeze plug on the driver's side? Have to use an allen wrench to remove it?
To remove the block plug, use a 1/2 inch allen wrench with a 6 inch cheater bar (pipe). There is plenty of room. Use some powderblast first to make it easier. Be ready for a coolant bath.
