Problem: When i apply the brake as hard as i can @ 45mph all that happens is a slow steady stop. The booster is 7 months old (Boggs and i suspect it may be bad) and i put a new master on today. I was very thorough in bleeding the lines, so it's not air. When i put my finger over the vacuum line for the booster i feel strong suction.
What could be my possible problems? Could it be a poorly re-manufactured booster? John said that bad calipers are not likely to cause this. Do i just need to go bleed them again?
its an old heavy truck. i dont believe my truck is the weight on my registration as my half ton is heavier. how do your pads look? what vacuum are you pulling? still running the original rubber brake lines? maybe upgrade?
I never got an e-mail from PLC, but i hooked a vacuum gauge up to my brake booster line and it pulled down to 24 in-Hg in about a second, almost instantly. I'm figuring that this means my pump is in great shape.
Your pump is good, yes. Why your truck stops poorly - pads you said are good, but they could be glazed too, I had mine glaze over while riding the brakes in the darn NYC traffic and truck stopped poorly till I actually pulled the pads and sanded them down some. Also rotors and drums are important, are those any groovy?
So the pads were glazed a little and one of the calipers has been so hot it burned up the outer rubber boot...
After replacing both front brake hoses and sanding the pads and rotors i'd say i'm at about 80% of normal. I've got much better brakes, but i still feel like the booster isn't working right.
Update after i replace te booster and left caliper...
