i have a 95 f150 i6 truck and got curious as to what rear gears i have thinking the where low gears since running 70 it seems to be wound up well i climbed under her and cleaned off the tag and low and behold it said 3.31 does that sound right to yall? i was under the influence that 3.55 was the highwest gears that where put in these trucks guess new gears wont be on my wish list if they are really that high
a couple more ?s ive looked but cant find anything to decode my door sticker i believe my axle code 17 matches with the 3.31 gears but idk what body c64 means and trans m or type-gvm f153 means any clues ??? any help is apreciated
Not sure which tranny you have but it shouldn't be wound out, I have the 3.55 (lowest I believe for that motor and tranny combo) in mine with a 5-speed and 4.9 and when I am at 70 its doing around 2300rpm with stock 235 tires.
My 94 had the 3.55s with the 300 5 speed and i was pretty good around town and normal highway speeds. The 94s engine was pretty tired so I tried to keep Rpms below 2500. My current 95 has the same engine and trans but has 3.08s. Its a great highway cruiser. The 300s torque works well with the 3.08s but its a pain starting off when hauling anything over 3000 lbs. If my rear axle failed I would try to get 3.31s. If you plan to run 31" tires go for at least 3.55s or 3.73s. BTW I haven't noticed any big difference in gas mileage.
My Dad's 83 had the 302, Aod, and 3.55s. It ran well but it would have been better with 3.73s.
All of those trucks had 235/15/75 tires and were 2wd. There are vin decoders that will break down your numbers available on most of the Ford truck sites. If you send Ford the VIN they will send you the build info.

PS Congrats on your 95. My 95 now has 213k and it is the 2nd best truck so far I have owned. I'm sure its going to surpass my 86 Suburbans 250k.
goin 70 my truck sounds like its wound up but my tach sits at 2300-2400rpms. just remember, we have tractor motors in our trucks that redline at like 4000rpms lol
