Sparkman1980 do you do much towing? I am trying to figure out why to do the gear change. I know my first thing on this truck will be a suspension lift.
GDog68 I got a quote for the Rough Country installed for 2700.00. I found the lift online for around 1299.00. The only thing I don't like about the Rough Country is they have to cut crossmembers. I don't know if that will weaken the frame. Skyjacker makes a lift that requires no cutting and it can be removed to bring it back to factory specs.

I do enough to warrant the gears, but not to buy a diesel. When I first did my lift, I didn't do gears because the towing I did do, wasn't that much - Small trailers, a boat, not much. Then I upgraded enclosed trailers, and was using my buddies camper a lot. It was rough. With the bigger tires, I just couldn't keep it in the power band. And I didn't have enough 'umph' to get off the line. I don't do too much highway travel. So I didn't mind the mileage loss.
If you are going to lift, and just 35" tires, I would wait and see what you think.

I am planning on getting a tuner do you think that will help? It will be a little while before I do anything. One reason is still under warranty and the second is the funds to do the mods. I have a friend who has a travel trailer I should try and tow his to see the difference with a good load on the back of the truck. What if I did a different set of gears like the 3.73's or some 4.10's. Another thing I was looking at was the speedo issues with changing gears and changing tire size. But it looks like that is something the tuner will fix.

Well first off, you should check with your local dealers. The dealer I use, flat out doesn't care about your warranty. They will fix your truck under warranty no matter what. Some others won't void your warranty as long as your mod's aren't crazy. and others will void if you install a stereo. Just a thought. My truck had 3.73's to start with, so I would recommend at least 4.10's. 4.56's are pretty tall for a stock truck. And I have an Edge programmer. And it's a big help. I don't notice an extreme difference in power, but there is a difference in throttle response, and "pep". And you can adjust your speedo for gears and tires right from the programmer. And power hungry performance makes the Gryphon. Its an Edge on steroids. You just call them up, and tell them exactly what you want, what your mods are, and what you are going to do, and then send you custom tunes. (disregard that if you already knew all that)

Yeah I have spoken to a couple people about programmers. Some of the guys talked highly of 5 Star tunning they are the same thing where they ask you what you have done to your truck and they will make a custom tune. I see a lot of people on this site have the Edge. As far a warranty I am only worried about the powertrain. So if I do a lift and maybe an exhaust down the road I don't think they will care. Plus I can always look at the fine print on the warranty and see if they say what will void it.
