What are these hoses?

Need help identifying what these hoses are... Its on a 92 F150 5.8l 4x4.

First picture is a hose fitting that is attached to the rear axle, has those brake lines running through it, where is that supposed to connect to? I noticed a hose coming from the top of my rear fuel tank that looked to be the same size, but was capped off??

Second picture is looking over the rear axle, facing the rear of the truck, up by the rear fuel tank... it has a long hose coming off it, and another connector up top for another hose. The long hose was dangling in front of the connector in the first pic, but it is NOT the same size hose. Where is this one supposed to hook up, and where is it supposed to run to?? Thanks!

That is the rear end breather (vent) hose, looks like it may be cut in half.
No other hose goes on the connector at the top, that is the way it is.

hmm odd, it had a nub of a hose on it that I cut off of it (in reference to the top pic)

And the vent hose... vent for what, the rear tank? If so, should the other end that is on top of the tank be plugged? (I would assume no but never know!)

Thanks!!

The vent hose is for the rear end. When the rear end gets hot the expanded air has to go some place or you will blow the seals out of the rear end.
The hose goes up to the frame and in a position so water does not enter the hose and rear end.

The hose thats hanging there goes on that nipple, and is routed up to a clip on the frame.

Part of the Evaporative Emission System.

There is a fuel vapor valve that fits into a hole in the tank. From the valve (or valves if you have two tanks) the hoses route along the frame rail forward to the charcoal cannister.

Ok cool thanks! I have been finding hoses left and right that seem to go nowhere, are disconnected, cut, etc... so I have been slowly reconnecting them all as I can figure them out! Thanks all for the help!!

In reference to the top picture, the breather hose for the rear axle... When I got my truck that hose was rotted away and ripped off about an inch and a half above the axle. The rest of the hose, when inspected, was rock solid and unbendable. May sound dumb but... is that bad?

You need the axle breather hose to be attached and in good shape so water and dirt can't contaminate your gear oil. Without the hose attached to the nipple on the axle it's just a hole into your rear end, not good.

Dude, thanks. I had completely forgot about that hose until I saw this thread. I'm glad I asked so I can get that hose replaced now. Who wants a hole in your rear... heh.

edit: Should that hose be capped off? I'm assuming it should, right.

No, it can't be capped or it won't be able to do its job. I don't know if there's some kind of filter or screen on it from the factory but just a regular hose run up into the frame would be a lot better than nothing.
