"toploader". Do you mean you have a top-loaded, top shifted, granny gear truck transmission like the T98 or T18?

Or do you have the car transmission? (which would be odd, they were never oem in trucks and it would be a real mismatch for your truck)

"drive gear". Do you mean the speedo drive gear?

im trying to figure out what speedo cable gear I need, I have 35"tires and 356 gears. Using my calculations that the cable spins 1000 times for evey mile, assuming my math is correct, I get 2.051 using a speedo gear calculation that was shown to me to use and depending on my drive gear im suppos ed to take that number and multiply it by my 2.051 to get the tooth count for the gear i need. Damn thats ashly to type from my phone haha, thanks for your help.

Do you have the speedo hooked up now?

If so, figure out what your error is.

Since you went to larger tires, you probably need to go to a speedo gear with fewer teeth. Figure approx 5 mph per tooth, and adjust accordingly.

If you have an accurate tachometer, you can calculate what your mph should be using the engine speed, axle ratio and tire diameter.
