a e-150? a chevette? What are we talking about? I think you are talking about a lightning. In that case I didn't think they had water running thru them. I thought all of the stock oil coolers are air only.
Exhaust manifold right on top of it, cylindrical object with coolant in it - yeah, it's the oil cooler alright, and he's working on either and PSD or an IDI oil-burner. Dunno about the PSD cooler, but the IDI ones are mighty expensive to get new, best bet would be to search through ebay and see if you can find one there.

???
Why would there be a cooler on top of the exhaust manifold? (not being a smart-a$$) Just seems like it might get hot. LOL
The cooler is not on top of the manifold, the manifold is on top of the cooler - well, not physically on top of it, but right above it, so I can see how a wrench slipping off a manifold bolt could possibly hit the cooler below.

Oh, that's right, forgot that gasser trucks actually have coolant flowing through the oil filter adapter, unlike cars that have a stand-alone heat exchanger with pressure lines running between it and the oil filter adapter... So yah, could be a gasser he's working on too, in which case he's actually quite a bit better off in his chances of finding the adapter in good shape.
My bad, I should have mentioned what I was working on. It's a '96 f250 w/ the 351W.
In any sense, it is an oil cooler, thanks.
And it turns out the the guy I got the truck from had a brand new one in a box of parts that he gave me w/ the truck. Saved me about $130.000. Having the correct part in stock, priceless.
Well, thats back together no problems.
Anybody got a used LH exhaust manifold they're lookin to unload. The one I took off is shot, also need a set of studs and bolts for the same.
Thanks for the replies folks, I appreciate the help!
I ordered LH & RH exhaust manifolds on eBay for about $40 per side. My old ones drew up when I removed them and now the bolts won't line up. Cast iron does that when it has been very hot for many cycles. Expect the chocolate milk truck today with new ones. Probably from China.
