ya i like that style more then some out there its square and looks meaner than the rest. is there any way to mount it to the frame better then just using the factory mounting bolts?
i would have to get longer U bolts but cut a piece of pipe in half that was the same i.d. as the axle o.d. so it would be the same curve as the axle and use the U bolts to hold it on. and weld the tabs on so that they are to the inside of the U bolts
Unless you are not going to be putting very much torque on it, this won't work. The purpose of a traction bar is to prevent axle wrap on a leaf sprung vehicle. If you put enough torque to twist the springs, then it will take more than just friction to prevent it from axle from wrapping. You will need to weld your mounts to the axle tube. Otherwise, once you twist the spring and the mount slips, it will not go back to its normal position. Traction bar mounts are usually welded and have a bushing to connect between the axle mounts and the traction bar. The front mount needs to be able to move from front to back or you will lock your axle into a very short range of motion.
If you want to see some pictures of traction bars, I would recommend that you go over to the forums of pirate4x4.com and look at some of the hard core builds sections. I would also recommend that you just surf. They are not very tolerant of newbie questions in those sections.

Not that I have seen but I haven't really looked into it to much either, I am sure that it can be mounted differently. What about additional mounting along with the factory bolts?
That looks like a pretty good set it would make it alot easier. But i was trying to get out of spending alot of money on it by building in myself.
I hear that, I was just trying to give an idea of how you could replicate what is in the photo. a visual template so to speak. I think Kris (powerstroke junkie) has a gallery of the ones he made. maybe he'll chime in.

You are right he did! here is the thread and the link to the gallery that he had the pics in Good Memory bro!!
Those traction bars look good. i was thinking about just using round pipe like that but i do not know if it would be strong enough. i want to get a little more hp out of my truck i also work it around the farm

If it held up on Kris's truck you won't break it with a little more hp or a farm. I promise.
