when I first start my truck it is fine, after it idles or runs for a while it is hard to start. went to a parts store and they checked the battery. It read good. Could it be the alternator? Wires are clean, terminals are good. thank you Bill
It turns over good, but won't fire? Or it won't turn over? Or it turns over slowly? Does it make a clicking noise and won't turn over? Will the radio and and other accessories work, but it won't crank?
frankin2 thanks it turns over very slowly. no clicking noise. sometimes i have to wait a couple of minutes before it turns over and starts. only does this if it has be idleing or running for a while. one auto part store said the battery was good. he said on fords it is probably ECU. $110.00 another one said ignition modular. $ 50.00 don't know which one to go and get. thank you
If you want to check the charging system, get a voltmeter and check the voltage on the battery with the engine off. Then get it started and check the voltage again. You should get a higher reading than you did when the truck was off. If it's charging, and the battery is good, I would check:
All the heavy wire connections at the battery, the solenoid, and the starter.
Check the heavy ground connection from the battery to the engine block.
I would then change the starter, and possibly the solenoid.
Any bad connections or bad solenoid should get very warm when it's cranking slowly.
