I have a 1977 F150 2wd, auto that has a bad bearing the the steering column (non-tilt, lower bearing) and a messed up column shaft from the previous owner apparently trying to use a hammer to remove the steering wheel ... sigh
Question - how hard is it to get a 78-79 column into my truck? Just looking for some interchangeability insight.
I am having trouble finding a column for a reasonable price and am hoping the 78-79's could help expand my options.
Its not hard at all, but 78-79 uses Trans mounted NSS and pre 77 uses a column mounted NSS. So you would have to retrofit your column mount NSS onto the column or retrofit a trans mounted NSS.
You can usually find a good 2wd column in any junkyard.
They are not hard to take apart and rebuild. I actually have a good column shaft laying around in you need one.
