Post gas tank problem

i have a 1986 ford f 150 with dual tanks.the gas guage works when it is on the front tank but when i switch to the back tank it goes to empty even when that tank is full.can anyone tell me how to fix this problem-thanks

bad sending unit. (however you spell that word) Is my guess.

You need to test the sending unit circuit from the select switch (known to go bad) back to the affected tank. You might have a bad switch, a bad wire, or a bad sending unit.

gas tank problem

prospector925, Switch to the affected tank. Turn your ignition key forward, but not all the way to start positon. Pull the sending unit wire, ground it to anything, if the circut is good from the plug on connector to the dash, the gauge should peg, then the sending unit is the problem.

Emphasize, make sure you are getting a good ground, when doing this.
