Well I don't know much about the 150's and we are going to go look at one tonight its a 98 extended cab lariat 4x4 with 133k. The guy said he just did brakes, k&n air filter, fuel saver chip, flowmaster exhaust, and a transmission temp sensor. What are some common things to look for with these trucks? And he is asking $3800 which seems fair so far I think.
On my 2001 I did have a spark plug blow out-had to retap the head and replace the coil pack. Cost about $120. Ask if he's changed the plugs. Mine has been a great truck-bought it w/ 58k and it now has 142k. Hopefully he has reciepts of any/all work that he's done to it.
Regarding the spark plugs, as mentioned before, ask if they've been changed. If they have been changed, ask who did them and find out if they're 'credible'. The spark plug blowout only happens if new plugs are installed improperly (not torqued to specs, etc...). If they haven't been changed, they are well due for it at 133k miles.
I bought mine at 129k miles from my uncle. He was the original owner and gave me a CD with all of the scanned images of receipts/invoices of all the work he had ever had done to it, which was mainly just the recommended maintenance items. But then again, my uncle takes good care of his vehicles and had the same Ford mechanic do all the work on it.
I've been very pleased with mine thus far, and would be even more pleased with it had I not needed to replace the AC compressor a month after I bought it.
