I have been using this site for about 4 years now and it has always been very helpful. Now for the questions I have. I recently traded my 2005 F-150 for a 2003 F-250 SD which I think was a great trade because it finally got me a diesel and the dealer traded me title for title. A little about the truck. Dealer says that according to the VIN the truck it came from the factory with the 6.0L and that the pervious owner put the 7.3L that is currently in the truck in. So my first question is how do I find out what transmission is in my truck because I am guessing the factory sticker with codes for eng, tranny, axle ratio, etc does me no good in my situation. Second all the threads I have read on here say that for custom tunes I need my PCM and VIN number.. Well if my vin number says my truck has a 6.0L and my PCM is for the 7.3L that is currently in my truck is the only way to get custom tunes for my truck going to a shop directly? I ask because I know from having my F-150 custom tuned. I live in central Illinois about an hour east of St. Louis so if I do have to take my truck in to have custom tunes written for it can any of you recommend someone in my area? Here is my truck.
when i ordered my tuner i removed the ecm, just to the left of the parking brake pedal and used the sticker on it to get the info i needed for the tuner. you might try this and see if you can retrieve any numbers from it.
