So, what you are saying is that the splined shaft going into the trans tail housing has to be greased! It dosesn't get any lubrication from the trans, no rear seal in the trans!
Typically that type of front yoke slips onto a tailshaft in the tailshaft housing and there is seal at the rear. Is there a seal further inward, on the shaft itself? If so you will have to grease it..............not familiar with that setup. Get a flashlight and mirror and take a closer look at it or someone will chime in.
I the rear tranny yoke stationary? If so leave it alone.
Replaced both u joints in driveshaft, still hearing a click when taking off from a stop, guess I will take the EX to the transmission shop to have them check out the rear diff !
A click when taking off from a stop can also be brakes. The pads can be a little loose and tighten up when you apply the brakes and make a stop. When you take off from the stop sign the pads will "fall" back into place and click.
I thought about the rear brakes but I coasted to a stop and still heard the click. I will have the mechanic check the rear brakes before he tears into the diff. Wish the diff had the rear cover so I could drain and inspect it myself! rear brakes are original 140k miles.
Does my 03 7.3L 2wd have the slip joint that needs to be greased and what type of tool does it take to remove the bolts on the rear flange of the driveshaft?
Not sure about the EX but this how I cured the problem on my F250 2WD.
