Has anybody ever installed a B&M shift improver kit? Is it hard to install? I have a C-6 tranny, Iordered a street/strip kit are they a big improvement from stock?
I used that shift kit for about three days. I was leaving rubber in both shifts for about 10 feet and it wouldn't shift until it hit about 4 grand. I had it removed by the same tranny guy who installed it. He said he hated them and recommended a transgo. The transgo worked very well. Nice firm shifts without the other problems. Barked second and chirped third but only at wide open throttle. It was behind a 360 in poor condition. I am moving this thread to the tranny forum as it would get more replies that way and that is where it belongs.
The B&M kit shifts hard at any RPM. It won't spin the tires at low RPM, it will just shift unnecessarily hard. The Transgo kit is throttle-sensitive. At light throttle, it shifts with close to stock firmness. With heavier throttle, the shifts are firmer & crisper. The Transgo kit is definitely better for a street-driven truck. It gives you the added performance under hard acceleration without the harshness at lower RPMs.
It took quite a bit of throttle to get to 4 grand just to get it to shift. I didn't know a tranny could shift that hard until I had the kit put in. Of course it didn't leave that much at part throttle but it was quite rediculous. I could still shift from 1st to second manually at any speed just like any C6 will.
I just recieved my B&M shift improvement kit. What do you think about the rv/towing improver vs. the street strip one? The kit lets you choose which one you want. The rv one should be way better as far as shifting at a lower rpm shoiuldn't it? My 268h cam cam today also I will be putting that in pretty soon. I'm pretty exited
