Just recieved a call from my boyfriend stranded on the side of the road. His alternator went and for some odd reason he is looking for the tension spring location... Can anyone help me, I'm lost...
Pull on the belt on the passenger side (hard) towards the passenger side. This will rotate the tensioner, have someone else push the spring loaded tab in towards the drivers side. Then slowly release the belt.
You should feel for the tab first so you know where it is. The spring loaded tab is on the left side of the tensioner.
You may want to have some string ready so you can tie your belt to something so it stays tensioned w/ the alternator out (so it doesn't slip off of the pulleys).
To re-engage the tension, after you change out the Alternator, just pull the belt again until you hear a click. Then release it.

If you can't get to the tensioner to do it, slip the belt over the alternator and with enough "ummmh" you can put the alternator in place with the belt on it.
