Ok I now this is't were I need to be but I can't seem to get any help else were. Ok here we go I'll do the best I can, My Father in law brought his Merc. Voyager over because of a check engine light. (was not on when he got to the house). Hooked up AE and code P0301 came up (Misfire on cylinder1). engine sounded ok, no rough idiol so I did a (clear code). Now It won't start, It will crank but it wont start. (It's a 97 with a 6cyl) Any help or a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
Did you try to re-read the codes?
Not likely clearing the code would kill the engine, but I would suspect bad timing coincidence.
Cylinder misfire can be triggered by MAF failure. Quite possible that malfunctioning MAF fail completely when you worked with a scanner if you know what I mean?
At this point you have to start from the scratches.
-Do you hear fuel pump engaging for few seconds at the turn of the ignition?
- do you see tachometer moving when you crank the engine (CPS)
-you can unplug the MAF and see if the engine will go into emergency mode to work without it.
A MAF will not cause a single misfire in only one cylinder, it'll be multiple cylinders unless that one cylinder was already borderline to begin with.
You need to determine if the engine is getting spark, and if so, if it's getting fuel pressure, and then, if the injectors are firing.
You might have blown the PCM fuse with the code reader or some other coincidence happened.
Check fuses first, that's easy. Then like I said, pull a spark plug wire or COP, put a plug in it, and ground the shell of the plug. Crank it - do you have spark?
If so, check fuel pressure with a gauge at the fuel rail. Cycle the key from off to on, and back a few times, while watching the gauge. Got fuel pressure?

Ok I'm at work now will not get off til 7:00 pm tonight, will look at those things and get back to you. I do know it will fire with starter fluid then quit

If it fires with starter fluid, that means the PCM has juice and is firing the coils and SHOULD be firing the injectors.
I'd check fuel pressure, and if there is none, bang on the tank with a 2x4 and see if it'll make pressure. I bet the fuel pump, relay or fuse is blown.

Well I went out to take a look at what you said to check. Put the key in the ignition and turned the key and to my avail the darn thing started up like this thing never happened. What's up with this??? Hooked up AE, No codes did some monitoring and all looked good
I've ran into that before, some cars for whatever reason, when you run codes or disconnect the battery it won't do a darn thing for up to 24 hours. And some have taken up to 500 miles before they started working right again. I agree that you should check the fuses as well, check the simple stuff first.

That's what a bad fuel pump or fuel pump relay will do. Now, it'll run for a few weeks, and then leave you stuck somewhere. Make sure the driver carries a cell phone or a 2x4 to bang the gas tank with
i agree with Art. my 2000 F350 was doing the same thing. that is why i got it so cheap, no one could figure out the problem.
one day it died in the driveway, and would not start again.
i put a new fuel pump in it and it has been fine for 3 years now.
