as far as i know, highboys came with a 6 inch lift. i got a '72 250 4x4, and a '70 2 wheel . the 4x4 is approx. 6 inches higher, but it's hard to tell. i haven't been able to find any info on these trucks, and not many people know much about them
i need to find out anything i can about this truck. it came stock with a 360 4v, np 435 trans, dana 24 transfercase, dana 60 rear, and dana 44 closed knuckle front axle. first i need to know how to adapt power steering to this beast. i don't want anything to do with the saginaw conversion, it already had it. something that dosent require welding pieces together would be nice. the second thing is what kind of gas tanks are adaptable under the truck? dual tanks if possible. or if anyone has any info on the highboy, or it's components. i know a far enough about fe's, but can't track down anything about transfer case specs, ratios etc.
There are *so many* (so-called highboy) related threads on hthis and the 73-79 trucks forum that people have stopped talking about them.
I suggest maybe do a search for *Highboy* and see what comes up.
I don't think that you can measure distances between a 2wd and a 4wd. and call it a lift? A six inch lift is quite high to have come from the factory with. I could be wrong, I was not around back when these trucks came out though.
Factory "highboys" have a 4 inch lift from the 2wd. If you look at the rear leaf springs, the springs themselves are the same on both 2 and 4wd. However the "highboys" have a 4" lift block. That's how Ford got the lift in the rear. The fronts are obviously different. Due to safety reasons, they did not use lift blocks
Springs are different between 2wd and 4wd on highboy years.... Ford wasn't trying to put a "lift" in the truck, they were trying to even out the back with the front because they designed the front axle with positive arch springs. There is a 4 inch block underneath the rear springs on a highboy to keep the height even between front and rear. ...And a highboy with good springs does stand tall.
No one is ever DONE talking about highboys...... heh
I've got a '71 2wd and and 4x4 and the springs themselves are the same width, arch and leaf count on both trucks. I do not know if the rate is the same, but they otherwise look the same. Both are original factory springs.
