Rear leaf spring holder rusted through.

Any one know if I can get new rear leaf spring holders for my 97 350. Mine has big holes rusted through them. What is involved in changing them?

Yes you can. The dealer has them for sure. Parts guy Ed might be cheaper.
You may even be able to get them at AZ or advance, not sure.

My brother just replaced his. His truck is a Cincinatti truck and they were rusted thru also. If yours are too I would highlt recommend you replacing them. Just gring off the rivets and bolt the new ones in place.

O'reillys has them as well. Much cheaper than the dealer. As said grind off rivet heads and pop them off then bolt on new ones. Doing mine in the next couple weeks.

Get them here:
Spring Accessories such as Shackle bolts, hangers, and shackles

Be sure to buy the kit, it has everything from the spring to the frame including bolts. The shackles may not come apart from the hanger w/o damage.
The other side isn't too far away from the same rust-through. Might as well do both.

I would replace all the bolts under there while you're at it. The bolts that hold the spring hangers to the chassis are 7/16 x 1 1/4. The bolts for the spring shackle are 14mm x 130. I ended up getting those at mcmaster pretty cheap. I think the front bolts are 5/8 or 3/4 diameter?

I almost forgot. You'll want to go grade 8 on those bolts.

I am dealing with this right now. It looks like there might be three different size bolts holding the rear spring in. The front bolt, the rear bolt that holds the spring to the shackle and then the bolt that holds the shackle to the hanger.

I've had to do this with ALL of our fleet trucks. Not only the rears but the front shackles and perches as well. Normally if one is bad the others aren't far behind. Like mentioned just grind down the outside of the rivets and pound them out with a punch and hammer. Install the new ones with the bolts and your good to go.

Dirt, water, salt, and crap sit on top of the brackets and rust threw. I really wish american vehicle companies took as much time as the imports on rust prevention.

FYI........ I heard that drilling a hole in the bottom of the rear hanger so it wont hold water will help keep the rust away.

I think the replacement ones already have the hole. I drilled my own in mine.

The replacements I got from the stealership had holes in them already. The bolts that hold the shackle to the spring and the shackle to the hanger are the same- 14mm x 130. The front bolts are bigger- 3/4" I think.

Interesting, our replacements didn't have any holes. I figured though that if the first ones lasted 200K+ miles the second set will outlast the truck.

Also to clarify when I said I had to replace the front shackles and perches I meant the fronts for the rear springs not the front springs.
