The trick to going faster and getting better mpg is to draft someone going that fast and keep out of the turbo. The only way I got away with 75 or 80 mph is by drafting my buddy's trailer. Not to closely though.

44 gallons tanks are on the Excursions. F250's have smaller tanks. And unless you've done the harpoon mod, you can put a lot more than a 1/4 gallon in after the first click. Actually, you can put more than that even with the harpoon mod.

With my Ex (harpooned), I can put in almost 2 more gallons after the first click. With my F250, I can put in over 6 gallons after the first click.

Strange, maybe it is the fuel you guys are getting? Is it very foamy?

I also got 22.5 mpg, the first tank right after I had the 4 inch exhaust, intake, and ccv mod installed. Ever since then it has been going down ...even when I drive slower on the highway. Looks like I need to bump it up to 80 mph and say the heck with it

All diesel is foamy with the exception of the biodiesel blends. I know that the B20 doesn;t foam very much in comparison to the straight No.2, but I'm not sure at what concentration the foaminess begins to taper off.

I've actually put as many as 31 gallons in my "28" gallon tank on my F250, and I've also put in a tad over 44 gallons in my "44" gallon tank on my Excursion. The point is that even the Ford rated volumes are a little conservative even after you get past the harpoon mod issue.

very well said. Myth busters did a thing on MPG, and they had a mason jar, the exact same length of fuel line pluged straight to the carb. They still had a variance factor. Plus they used the exact same car. Like the discussion though.

The most I've been able to squeeze into my 250 was 33.445 gallons. I've been able to squeeze over 48 into my Ex.

That's pretty impressive. I regularly get 46-47 gallons in my Ex, but never 48.

The long bed 38 (99-07) gallon tank will hold 42.8 gallon! Max.

I NEVER saw over 16mpg on my wife's '04 Cummins. I see around 17 with our PSD. I'm hoping going back to stock size tires will help our PSD. HTF did you get 22.5mpg in yours? How fast were you going?

I don't see how yall are getting these mpgs's I just got back from a trip and averaged 17.52 and that's not getting over 72mph and mostly 65. I know I am not tuned or anything but I think I got better before the intake and exhaust! I migjt be going back to the stock intake until I save up the beans and have it tuned. The drone and the noise gave me a headache coming back from Charlotte. Oh did I tell yall I still love my truck?

Do a search on hutch and harpoon mods.

Haven't had to recalibrate my speedo on my Ex, but for my Roadrunner I just bought a different speedo gear to install in the tailshaft of the trans. If you're just 5 mph off, I'd just live with it.

If your GPS says 75, that's how fast you are going. Trust this, not your speedo. If you're not positive that's right, do 55 mph (indicated) and time yourself between mile markers on the interstate - 60 mph (actual) is a mile a minute.

To figure your mileage, you need to know what % your speedo is off. Sounds like it's about 7% off (5 mph slow at 70 mph). If so, then when you fill up, if your odometer shows 500 miles since last fill up, add 7% to that to get actual miles traveled.
