coolant flush procedure

maybe this is a stupid question. the coolant flush procedure in the chilton's manual states (paraphrasing): remove cap on expansion tank,
drain radiator, close petcock, remove thermostat, replace housing (without installing thermostat), remove upper radiator hose at radiator, insert garden hose in radiator. my question is: do you run the engine while the garden hose flushes the radiator or does the flow from the garden hose flush on its own? please, oh please, help!!!

my truck: 2004 (newer body style)
5.4L

No do not run the engine while the hose is running that runs the risk of sucking water into your engine block. It will flush on its own.

Don't even try running the engine without a hose. It is not very much expensive but if u do such a mistake it will create great problem for your car.
