Looking at a 2008 f350 (yea,thinky about getting rid of my 7.3) First thing I did was pull the trans dipstick and it had what looked and felt like sand on it. The fluid was very dark, Ford dealer says it only needed service.What could it be?

I went the opposite direction, sold the '08 and bought a '01. Got tired of lousy mileage and continual problems replacing DPF, radiator, CAC, EGR.
They do perform great when all is well, lots of power. But, it all comes at a price-lousy mileage. Just my .02.
