MY thriottle is sticking! Like when I started my truck this morning, I got it stated easily, but then the engine immediatly reved up to 5000 rpm's and I turned the engine off. I opened the hood, and on the carb, the thing was stuck way back in the open position, so I just barely taped the side of it and it jumped back down to close throttle. (the thing I can;t think of the name that thegas petal spins on the carb) And for a week or 2 it has been doing this! Like when I shift, the rpms rise instead of fall the the spinny thing gets stuck in position!!!
I was thinknig about the beight side and that was its a good method of cruise control, but WAY annoying!!! Anyone know what the problem is?
I think its just a matter of ising some carb cleaner and lubrication, but my engine is propane right now so I dopnt know If I can put carb cleaner on a propane engine?!?
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Billy
and in 22 yrs the carb has never done this sticking thing!
I am assuming the "thing" has wires coming out of it? When it sticks again, try unplugging the wires to see if it will drop back. If it doesn't drop back, then it must be something wrong with it mechanically and I would buy a new one.

An '81 F-350 with a 351 bored to 400 probably doesn't have many electronics!
It could be that the throttle shaft has worn a notch into the carb, causing it to bind. It could also be the fast idle screw, or something jamming that linkage. The throttle cable is also a possibility.
With the engine off & the air cleaner removed, pull the cable off the throttle lever ball and operate the throttle by hand to see if it jams. If it DOES, look all around the carb to see what's holding it. If it DOESN'T, get inside & operate the pedal (with the cable still disconnected) to see if IT jams.
If the cable is disconnected from the throttle lever on the carb, the return spring won't return the cable (and accel pedal) to it's normal position even if the cable is good (unless i'm missing another spring on my truck somewhere).
Thus, you probably still need the cable to be attached to test it unless you can work out a direct cable to spring connection.

You're apparently missing the return spring on the throttle-end of the cable. It should be between the sheath and the fitting that snaps onto the throttle ball.
