Power Steering Coolers
When is a power steering cooler necessary, and when can it be omitted? I'm putting my '73 Galaxie back together, and in the process I've removed the defunct A/C components. The issue with that is that the vehicle was originally equipped with a power steering cooler, and unfortunately it was mounted to the A/C compressor (and shaped accordingly).
Instead of fabricating a bracket to accommodate the original cooler or buying a generic new one that I can mount with much more freedom, can I just avoid using it in the first place? My '79 F100 doesn't have a PS cooler, and neither did my LTD. However, both of those vehicles have a later-model pump, while the pump on my Galaxie is older. What do you all think?
Here's a shot of the original cooler:

Thanks for the help.

It mounted on the inside of the frame rail below the PS pump. Even this or the later loop on the crossmember is better than nothing and easily formed out of 3/8" steel tube. If you want the pump and gear to live, you need a cooler.
I think I've seen a cooler similar to yours mounted on the adjuster bolt as well- The rubber lines let it go about anywhere.
