Stock 7.3 PSD Upgrades

I am new to the list and new to Ford PSDs..
I am purchasing a 2002 F250. Can I get pros and cons for this engine and some performance upgrades you would do immediately... if any

Thanks on advance
Jason

Also on a side note... anyone know the specs and towing capacity?

first open up the intake with a 6637 filter...search "6637" basically you get rid of the bad stock air box and get a better filter. also open up the exhaust with a 4 or 5" turbo back system...then look into gauges and a chip after all that. from then on ...good luck you will get a serious case of powerstoke mod syndrome...PMS
check out riffraff diesel for you parts...he is a sponsor and a great guy who is always ready to help.
good luck and great score on the truck with so low miles

First off-Welcome to FTE.Where are you buying the truck,Dealer, private party,Joe Schmoes automart?I would change out all the fluids,if it hasn't been done already, that way you know everything is fresh. Some people like the 6637,others don't,say it has too much whistle,I won't run one,I'm going to run the AIS from Ford,a bit pricey, but it was made for the truck.I don't care for chips and tuners, just my opinion. The owners manual will give you the specs and towing capacity.I've towed close to 10k with no problem.Good luck, you'll love the truck.

Buying the truck from my cousin... No doubts he kept up on the maintenance... he did say he had a problem with the rear end a couple years ago and got it replaced. Said he hasn't had a problem since.

Thanks for the info. Looking forward to this truck.

welcome to fte. how are you planning on using the truck? i would check over all the maintenance items first. this will help you get to know your new truck. then i would put in a set of guages. alot depends on what you want to do and how much you want to spend? good luck and enjoy.

Welcome to FTE

Congrats, on your purchase, and welcome to FTE. like most have said if in doubt change fluids check brakes, and go over your rig.
I like the 6637 filter it does give a slight turbo whistle and it can be found at your local napa store. Gauges of some sort are really good to have even if you don't go with any chips, power add on's. Exhaust is a good choice to help move the extra air you introduced into the engine now move it out.

Welcome to FTE. The amount of information on this site is staggering. Before you buy anything do a search on the 7.3 forum. There is someone who will give you good feedback. X2 on Clay from RIffraff. He is kinda like a super hero as near as I can tell. Have fun with your truck, but make a budget. lol
