so my wife is REALLY pushing me to get a new truck, seeing as though i sold my STX and april and I've been driving a Discount Rental 2010 F150 XLT that smells like *** and old people since then. i want some advice on the new engines coming out for the 2011. i can wait for a while to get the 2011 F150 with the 5.0 or 3.5 ecoboost, or i can get a 2010 5.4 now. i have a weakness, and that's when i buy something i like at the time, and then something better comes out, i get all pissed and want the new version. it makes my wife and family angry, but it happens. i am not sure about having a V6 in a 5500LB truck, regardless of it having more power than the 5.4. the 5.0 Coyote sounds nice, but i want something that gets superior fuel economy. there is another problem as well. i can run the risk of missing the employee pricing, and then paying $47,000, instead of $35,000. so, what's your advice? should i wait to get the 2011 or get a 2010 now?
I am waiting until next summer to buy because I want one with the new engine. I am also waiting until the summer to see if there are any problems with the new engines before I buy. I want the 5.0 in my new truck. If you like the new stuff, I would wait until they roll out the 2011 models.
I just traded my 02 SD for a 2010 F150. I have faith in the 5.4 engine so it was an easy decision for me. I get about 22mpg highway and around 18 mixed with the 3.31 gear. Good milage IMO for a full size truck. The new engines may be great, but it will take some time to tell and I didn't want to wait that long. If your really wanting one of the new engines, wait and see how they do before you buy the 2011. If I decide later that they offer enough advantage, I will consider a trade.
WOW, thats a tough decision and IMO, a crystal ball is needed for this one. The new 6.2 V8(two plugs per cylinder) is projected to be the cat's meow with both power and great gas mileage. That said, one can buy a hell of a lot of gas for the big discounts Ford is currently offering for the F150's. I recently went with the 2010 King Ranch that came with about 10K off the sticker and still not sure I did the right thing. Don't know what the discounts will be like next year. I will say this, the KR is a beautiful ride. I notice the post above gets 18 MPG, mixed driving. I'm not doing that well; about 14.5 but I have the tow package with the 3.73. Hopefully, after the first oil change, things will improve.
i think what I'm going to do is pull the trigger on the 2010 now, and according to a Canada Blackbook fellow on the phone said that the value of the truck does not depreciate from the final deal price, it depreciates from the MSRP. so by next summer hopefully it will still be worth $32-33,000, so if the new engines are worth trading, i will trade.
Well..........I'm the noob here and I went and pulled the trigger on a 2010 XLT Screw. Great deals and my thinking was I wanted the 4.6 3V with the 6 speed, which from what I've read does pretty well on gas. And it does! I'll give the new (2011) drive trains a while to work out......not sure I want to pay for premium in the V-6 either. I'm curious as to what mpg the coyote will get as well.
STX, the 2011 F150 info will be released this Wednesday! At least wait a couple of days to read driving impressions and specs and then make a decision. Then if you decide to get a 2010 anyway, the good runout prices should be on their way soon!
All four engines slated for the 2011 F-150 are already in service and have been for at least a few months.
Based on Ford's assertiveness with quality refinements on the 6.2L, I feel that they would have held back on the reigns for the 3.7L and the 5.0L (both mustang engines) had there been any issues.
For those of us who remember when the 6.2L was about to debut in the Raptor, Ford delayed it for a few months until they could get a couple of little bugs worked out.
I'll side with optimism and say the engines will be fine.
The automobile industry (others too) practice "Planned obsolescence" to create a need where one does not exist. If you wait to purchase because something new is promised by the car maker, you will wait forever. Buy what you like with the understanding that tomorrow the car maker will make you feel like they have something better for you despite telling you yesterday that the one you bought was better than the one you had before.
Car makers don't want you to wait, they want you to buy what they have now. Otherwise they would be running ads saying "don't buy one now, wait for our new one." Then when the new one comes out they hope it tempts you enough to want to upgrade. That's why they have embargos so you don't know how good the next one is too soon. It's only when you read auto news websites and magazines, do you see what's coming out next. I say wait. Small power upgrades can happen yearly, but all-new engines don't even come once every ten years.
I am waiting for the 2011. I either want a 5.0 or 6.2. Why wouldn't you wait? We should be getting more hp and torque and the same or better mpg.
I imagine that if you buy a 2010 the amount that it's marked down is probably about equivalent to how much you have lost in value due to the depreciation of buying an "old" model. So in that respect you aren't saving much-this is my opinion
No matter how new something is, rebates and incentives will always be there. Sales leadership is the name of the game. Ford wants and deserves to be profitable but they also want to sell the most trucks.
The '09's didn't get marked down too much at first because there was a whole slew of '08's left over that needed selling. Since then, the deals have been pretty darned good.
