Single stack?
- Shower cap (you could pick the color)
- 1 gallon tomato can (kinda redneck sheik)
- Rain cap (gotta love the rattles and clanks)
- Move where it doesn't rain
And... I do think the stacks look cool. I'd never do it just cuz I like the "sleeper" look. It's hard enough to sneak up on someone in one of these things.
Thanks again, seems like a very helpful forum and group of people!
A 4" stainless turbo-back should be good enough for performance but you don't seem to be looking for performance.
Seems you want the stack and smoke for the same reason the "ricers" you complain about do crap to their Hondas - looks (stack) and attention (smoke).
Stacks are to diesels what fart cans are to Hondas.

Reps to JIA.
To everyone who gave me some great answers and helped me, thank you very much.
MAYBE if you had this:

Again, MAYBE as you can see there are no stacks on that truck.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I think a single black stack would look perfect on your truck, so if that is what you want then go for it! Don't worry about the soot on your truck. You won't see it on your black paint and there isn't too much soot. Worst case, if it is going to rain really hard toss a small kid's sand pail on it. Thats what I do with mine.Hopefully the stack bashing will stop.
I would love to put twin chrome stacks on it, but I would never run them up straight or slant cut. I drove semi's for a few years back in the 80's, the soot sucked.
I would get a 90 degree elbow and cut it as short as you could, just enough to protect the down pour of rain getting inside it. I would turn them to the outside of the truck and then do a cool slant cut so from the side the pipe would look about oval.
Can you tell I've thought of this for a while? Plus I have never seen anyone with this style. BTW some people just complain like an old maid, just ignore them, they have nothing better to do than try to rain on peoples parade. Ha Ha "rain", no pun intended.
Stacks aren't my thing either and it's fine to express that but the hating needs to stop.
EDIT: BTW I like FORDTUF1's idea that of a slight bend and slant cut.
If you guys are comparing a nice sleek V8 diesel with good looking stacks that sound nice to a Honda with a loud, annoying muffler that is as big as the car sticking out the back... I'm either stupid or you guys are too old.
A little thing called irony.
You've helped solidify my opinion that diesel truck owners with stacks that "roll coal" in town and blow soot all over because they think it's cool are the current generation of ricers.
Diesel ricers think it's cool - everyone else thinks the person "rolling coal" is a tool. Especially those with the windows down, or riding in Jeeps/convertibles and have to breathe the effects of an intentionally craptacular tune.
I see it like this - you've got a King Ranch. Why go screw it up by cutting a hole in the bed and hurting the re-sale value? How many people are going to want that down the road? Add to that the problems with soot volcanoes, not having the ability to put on a tonneau cover or a top, and if you want to put a toolbox in it the stack will be in the way. May not be a problem for you, but when it comes time to sell the truck it will be a problem - if I were looking to buy a truck and saw your King Ranch for sale with a stack on it I'd pass it over.
No different that seeing a hot chick you'd really like to hook up with then finding out she's got herpes - pretty much a deal-breaker.
Unless, of course, you have herpes too, then you could herpa derp derp all you want. (Not saying you have herpes, just sayin' that I've been wrong before and there could be a bright side. Who knows?)
But I digress.
Ultimately it comes down to this:
Exactly. It's your truck, have fun with it.
But be prepared for...
Ricer!

Could care less or couldn't care less?

Again, not trying to give you crap (OK - maybe a little), just a different point of view.
