Let's see...
  • Shower cap (you could pick the color)
  • 1 gallon tomato can (kinda redneck sheik)
  • Rain cap (gotta love the rattles and clanks)
  • Move where it doesn't rain
Now, just to be fair, even a regular exhaust will absorb some moisture and blow chunks on a good day. It's just with the vertical stack you are better prepared to shower your neighbors with black rain.

And... I do think the stacks look cool. I'd never do it just cuz I like the "sleeper" look. It's hard enough to sneak up on someone in one of these things.

Very true, Thanks for the input Trucky, and everyone else! It's very appreciated. I will keep everyone updated on the status of the stack. First plan is getting a chip so it smokes a bit, then the stack and finishing off a 12 pack with a buddy installing it!

Thanks again, seems like a very helpful forum and group of people!

"Don't do it" would be an obvious way around it.

A 4" stainless turbo-back should be good enough for performance but you don't seem to be looking for performance.

Seems you want the stack and smoke for the same reason the "ricers" you complain about do crap to their Hondas - looks (stack) and attention (smoke).

Stacks are to diesels what fart cans are to Hondas.

Exactly! Making your truck smoke is asinine. Making it slow by installing an exhaust system that is too large to generate enough back pressure is even more so. Ricers ruin Hondas and apparently ruin Super Dutys. Cool to the 16 year old punk kid I guess.

Reps to JIA.

Semi trucks have stacks, yes. Do they need stacks? No, the exhaust can dump out the bottom just as well. You do not have a semi truck or even a big truck. You have a medium duty pickup truck. No need for stacks.
MAYBE if you had this:
Again, MAYBE as you can see there are no stacks on that truck.

Get what you want on your truck man. It's your buck, nobody else's. I have stacks on my trucks and love them. Don't care what people think about it honestly. I like what I like. I'm so sick and tired of people bashing what other people like on THEIR truck. I'm sick of the loud exhaust/stack debate. I think a single black stack would look perfect on your truck, so if that is what you want then go for it! Don't worry about the soot on your truck. You won't see it on your black paint and there isn't too much soot. Worst case, if it is going to rain really hard toss a small kid's sand pail on it. Thats what I do with mine.

Hopefully the stack bashing will stop.

From: at the truck pulls
Hey I'm a 46 year old kid I guess because I would love to put dual stacks on my brand new 2011. I can't do it because I pull a 5th wheel camper and I have a low profile tool box that I must carry too.

I would love to put twin chrome stacks on it, but I would never run them up straight or slant cut. I drove semi's for a few years back in the 80's, the soot sucked.

I would get a 90 degree elbow and cut it as short as you could, just enough to protect the down pour of rain getting inside it. I would turn them to the outside of the truck and then do a cool slant cut so from the side the pipe would look about oval.

Can you tell I've thought of this for a while? Plus I have never seen anyone with this style. BTW some people just complain like an old maid, just ignore them, they have nothing better to do than try to rain on peoples parade. Ha Ha "rain", no pun intended.

IMO a single black stack no bigger than 4". Needs to be a little bit taller then the one in post 9.

Stacks aren't my thing either and it's fine to express that but the hating needs to stop.

EDIT: BTW I like FORDTUF1's idea that of a slight bend and slant cut.

Listen man, if you want a stack, get a stack. Different Strokes for Different Folks... May I suggest a dual 6'' mitre cut set up or a single 6'' mitre cut. 4-5 inch stacks look like regular exhaust pipes sticking out of your bed. A 6'' adds alittle personality.

If you guys are comparing a nice sleek V8 diesel with good looking stacks that sound nice to a Honda with a loud, annoying muffler that is as big as the car sticking out the back... I'm either stupid or you guys are too old.

let me qualify this... a well installed, sleek looking, good sounding stack kit on a diesel truck is pretty dang sweet.

Just dont go flying by car shows at 90 mph like the idiot ricer "fly bys."

Well one more post... I like FORDTUF1's idea alot... this can probably be easier done if you got the Aussie Bo-Hauller stacks and cut em... Have some one who knows what they are doing complete this work. Good luck... We need pictures when its done.

Work with me here, I'm not bashing you, just pointing out something.

A little thing called irony.

Semis have stacks. Your pickup truck is not a semi.

We could easily insert your situation into that quote...

Diesel ricers are guys with pickup trucks that think they have semis and think it looks good and is cool.
Are you seeing the parallels here?

You've helped solidify my opinion that diesel truck owners with stacks that "roll coal" in town and blow soot all over because they think it's cool are the current generation of ricers.

Diesel ricers think it's cool - everyone else thinks the person "rolling coal" is a tool. Especially those with the windows down, or riding in Jeeps/convertibles and have to breathe the effects of an intentionally craptacular tune.

Guess what, dude - feedback can be both positive and negative. You wanted opinions and you got them. Don't get butthurt because not everyone is holding your hand and encouraging you to cut into your King Ranch.

I see it like this - you've got a King Ranch. Why go screw it up by cutting a hole in the bed and hurting the re-sale value? How many people are going to want that down the road? Add to that the problems with soot volcanoes, not having the ability to put on a tonneau cover or a top, and if you want to put a toolbox in it the stack will be in the way. May not be a problem for you, but when it comes time to sell the truck it will be a problem - if I were looking to buy a truck and saw your King Ranch for sale with a stack on it I'd pass it over.

No different that seeing a hot chick you'd really like to hook up with then finding out she's got herpes - pretty much a deal-breaker.

Unless, of course, you have herpes too, then you could herpa derp derp all you want. (Not saying you have herpes, just sayin' that I've been wrong before and there could be a bright side. Who knows?)

But I digress.

Ultimately it comes down to this:

Exactly. It's your truck, have fun with it.

But be prepared for...

Again, not trying to give you crap (OK - maybe a little), just a different point of view.
