For the doors? For the dash? Need to know just where you want them.

Are you retaining the stock AM radio or upgrading?

Let us know how everything works. When the weather cools, I will be trying to get my radio working as well.

Like you, I have NO speaker in the dash above the factory AM radio. If I can find a speaker, I may think about what to do next. Might need to get unit rebuilt just don't know yet.

Still I am interested to know if the 5 x 7 speaker will work, which will be the next step.

I just installed a basic 5x7 in mine recently...works well. Beefing up my heat/sound insulation in the firewall area and tranny tunnel (under the rubber floor mat) helped with existing noise.

when I bought my truck it already had a shaft am/fm/cassette deck, but retained the original 3 watt 8 Ohm speaker. I went down to audio express and said I needed one 5x7. they had a set of two kenwoods made to fit in fords/mazdas. It fit perfect, but I told the salesman that the truck only had one speaker originally and only needed one, and I didn't want to pay the $120 for only having one speaker. He told me I could have the two of them for the price of one at $60! so I jumped on that, installed it, and haven't looked back since! sounded great, the screws lined up perfectly.

I tried to use my micrometer eyeball on the speaker holes at walmart. will be probably a few more weeks before I can test it. body work is being finished. I've owned it 25yr, first repaint job.

For the doors?

Ford didn't offer door speakers until 1968, and they were only installed when the trucks came with the optional (1970/72) monaural AM/FM radio or the (1968/72) optional 8 track stereo tape player that bolted to the bottom of the dash.

The door speakers and grilles are the same as 1968/70 Mustang/Cougar.

I got to looking and evidently ALL speakers are classified by bolt hole spacing, not cone size. I have attached a link that I found useful.

Crutchfield Tech Support: How can I identify the size of the speaker that I have just removed from my car?

If it is a 5 x 7 then, there should be no problem with a match, as has been indicated above.

I just installed a 6.5 in place of the 5x7 using the factory screw holes. I also installed a pioneer cd player in the glove box, i didnt want to cut up a good dash!
