Power Seat Won't move back
Here is a diagram for 2001, I don't recall memory seat being avail till 2002 and beyond, I could be wrong of course.
But on my 2001 power seat system, it's very mechanical, and analog. No end of travel switches, or photo electric wheels, just cut and dry, and appears to use just the thermal overloads.
Although not listed as to what the max load amps are, it's possible that your motors, and or tracks are creating enough drag/resistance to trip the thermal overload on any of the motors, this may coincide with your intermittent operation, there appears to be one for each motor. You can certainly use an amp probe on the main voltage wire to the switch set, or each motor voltage wire to get a current reference, then compare to what others, or myself measure for current draw.

I thought about a thermal protected motor, which I why I asked about coming back later and being able to move it further in the same direction. If that's a no-dice, I'd guess it isn't thermal... I'm now even more a fan of putting power to the offending motor itself and seeing what goes down.
My 2012 Ford F150 Driver Seta Won't Go Back
I'm in need of help... our was deployed and his truck has been at the house. We used it to pick another vehicle up form the shop and now the seat won't go move back. It goes up/down/forward... but not back. He's coming home in less than a week and I'm in a jam. I did try to recline it back as suggested but that didn't work. Although I wasn't sitting in the seat (will try that this evening). Any other suggestions? Please help.
2004 F250 seat stuck forward
First post here: Thanks to everyone for all the advice.
My issue was the seat got stuck forward and wouldn't move back. All the other motors worked, including the up and down on the center switch. After checking the fuse, which I didn't expect to be blown given all the other motors worked, tried the seat back trick but no luck. Then tried the seat back trick again and again (frustration) and then tried the switch again. This time tried the switch, which previously just went "clunk" a bunch of times and it moved just a little bit. Then it started to move back. Guessing the forward position must have untracked the motor somehow and it finally got back in position to move the seat.
Now I just have to figure out how to keep my wife from messing with the seat.

Drivers seat not moving
Every now and again my driver side power seat will not move either. This is what I found. After spending half an hour checking fuses, wires, motors and what not I said hey dipstick, see what the owners manual says about power seats. Sure enough deep within the seat section, it states that if the power seat doesnt't work, put the seat back section of the seat down to it's lowest position a couple of times. This somehow resets the body module for the driver seat. Weird but it has worked several times for me. I just have to remember to do this, before I go into full on trouble shooting mode again.
Didn't work for me. I remember removing the seat and cleaning the switch contacts. That fixed it. Though it isn't 100%. Fortunately I put < 200 miles a year on the truck so if it acts up I only have to endure it for a day or so.
Seat swap.
HELP! I just purchased a set of 40-20-40 front seats from a 2009 super duty. I plan on putting them in a 2004 Ford F-450 XL. The work truck F-450 is an XL so I know I have no power. No big deal I can run power to the seats. They will be a no brainer on the actual swap from the bench to split bench. My question is before I do this...... I have tested the seats by direct connection to a battery. The driver has the 4 wire and I know grey-red is hot and black-violet is ground. Same for both driver and passenger except driver also has seat belt chimer also wired in the connector. When I direct connect the grey-red to power and black-violet to ground everything works except one of the seat directions. Both the front and rear up-down work, but forward only works. If I reverse wires to flip hot and ground, everything still works but the opposite direction of reverse works on seat positions, and no forward. I'm at my wits end! What am I missing. I see no memory controller and this is the same for both driver and passenger. Please, before anyone asks, I have searched the forums for over 2 hours.
Where is lever located
^ yeah it's in there. The funny thing is, after I read that I said yea right! how are you supposed to move the power seat if it's not working (duh). Then I realized that there is a lever that performs this function. Somewhere in the automotive world of engineers, there's at least one guy, who probably still gets a kick out of this.

it only took $500 for the Ford dealer to fix my sister's 2010 Raptor's passenger seat.
the back leaned down to the floor, and would not return.
the module that controls it was bad.
my '02 Excursion driver seat is a mess, it won't move unless I am out of the seat.
