fuel gauge

Just bought a 1988 Ford F150. The fuel gauge is pegged above full and does not move. A new gas tank was just put in along with a new fuel pump. I would really like for the gas guage to work. Anybody got any ideas as to what the problem is and how I could fix it?

No it's not that full. There is gas in the tank but not full. The gas guage is pegged above full no matter how much gas is in the tank. I'm thinking it may the wiring between the fuel sending unit and the guage, but I don't know what color that wire is to check it. I have tried to find the wiring schematics but have had no luck.

i have a stick guage on my 94 it will never read below a quarter tank. i wouldn't think its a wiring issue, as much as maybe the float is stuck or broken. sorry i cant be more help. if i figure whats up with mine i will post it up for ya.

if i remember correctly i think that the pegged over full constant is a sign of a bad ground coming off your sending unit wire, i would think it would be a standard black wire for a ground, i would try to tap into it and grun it to a good solid ground and see if it fixes your problems
