Won't start

2008 250 with 54000 miles. Truck was running perfect. Get in it to start it up and nothing happens. Dash lights come on like normal but the motor doesn't turn over. Just like a dead battery. Ford road side comes and picks it up. They take it to the dealer and the dealer calls me and says it started up fine with them. But they want to keep it over night and try it in the morning to see if it acts up then. Later the next day they call and say I need 2 new batteries. One showed 140 cold cranking and the other was 14. And they are not covered under warranty. They call and tell me it is ready and they charge me 270.00 for the 2 batteries. I pay go get in it and it will not start, same problem. I go get the tech and he plays with it and it finially starts up. So they give me a loaner and say they will call me.
A day goes by and they call say it is ready but once again want to keep it over night to make sire nothing is maybe daring the batteries. They say the problem is that the batteries got low and it reset the relays. Then they put the new batteries in they forgot to program them. Give me a paper saying it was code P1260 saying it was the passive alarm system. Well I drive it home and it runs perfect the. Go out to eat and on the way home check engine like flashes along with the chime saying pull over safely now. Then the engine shut off. And doing the same as before. Turn the key on and everything works but it will not turnover.
Any thoughts? Thanks

Do you have a second key; maybe the security part of the key.

They gave me a new key. They said my spare at home wouldn't work anymore. I had both keys with me but neither would start it.

Check the ground wire from the firewall to the engine. It may be loose.

Just because of new batteries does not mean you need new keys. There is something else at play here.

Sounds like a wiring harness issue of some kind.

Well they say the reason for the new key was that for them to reprogram the relays that had to have 2 keys but I only left them one. So they used the key I had plus the new one they gave me. But say my spare at home will no longer work. I don't understand that because it doesn't look like these keys have the chip in them.

sounds like a short in the wiring harness. I talked to a guy that had similar problem. Parked the truck at night, next morning wouldn't start, took the dealer a few days but figured out the short and replaced wiring harness, don't know which one or where specifically the short was though.

My '08 didn't have a chip in the key. Spare key was just $1.50 Walmart copy.

Update

It's fixed so far. Dealer says the problem this time is unrelated to last. This time it was a EGT sensor. Basically told the computer the to exhaust was to hot and killed the engine. It would start after it cooled but only run a mon or two.
The dealership says they drove it 75 miles with no problems. Plus they topped it off with fuel thankfully.

EGT sensor is rare but a couple have had that issue.

Hope that is the end of it.
