Finally got around to replacing my planks. My old ones were 10 years old, dry rotted, and not pressure treated. They were falling apart and becoming unsafe for any weight. The brackets were bought at home depot about 10 years ago for $10. This time i used pressure treat and went nuts with the router to make grooves. $20 and Daddy has a new set of ramps. This was a project that has been getting put aside. So i am pumped that it is done. I don't use them often. But have to transport a golf cart tomorrow and i doubt the old ones would have done the job.
So i say farwell to my old ones as i toss them in the fire pit. (When i tossed them they even fell apart more).. A beer for my old ramps. They have helped me through all my Motorcross years and transporting stuff from golf carts to lawn tractors to motorcycles and even helping my friends when they borrowed them.. GOOD BYE MY FRIENDS. Hope you make some good marsh mellows the next time we light the fire.
those are some good looking ramps. one word of cuation i have seen a set like that kick out and a four wheeler drop down onto the tailgate puting a nice bend in it. since you raced mx i know you have some tie downs around. you can wrap one end around the ramp and hook it to itself and run the other end to the tow hook points under the bumper to help prevent this from happening to you.
I have also seen ramps that have kicked out of folks. I have lots of tie downs from mx. lol. I was actually thinking of an eye bolt on the under side of the ramp to hook the strap to. But the eye bolt would hinder packing the ramps in the truck. I have never had a kick out. But i have seen were i have gotten close. We do have to practice extra caution with these things and it scares me every time. Good idea with just wrapping the strap around the ramp and attaching it to the to tow hook point.. I will do that tomorrow while loading the golf cart.. Plus i always look for a ditch to back up to to help with the angle. I also think the trick is to go easy on the gas/brakes while the drive wheel is on the ramp. If you stop fast or go fast the ramp will try to slide. Nice and smooth is the important thing. Easy does it. And always find a spotter to help.
I was going to hop up to tractor supply to pick up these. http://www.tractorsupply.com/vehicle...g-ramp-1035016 But i don't like the ladder type. I figured my planks lasted me ten years and now with new ones i should be good for another 10.
