1998 460 over heating

New here, need some help. I have a 1998 35 ft. rv with 460. I have put new radiotors, cap, thermostat, belts, water pump, banks headers and cold air ,all new sensores, clutch fan, flushed motor, still on tow up to 55 to 60 runs good, any thing above that it over heats, slow it down and it will cool of. It will run cool at ideal, It has 40000 miles on it also it will lose vacuum at high speeds any help would great

sounds like a bad fan clutch, if you try to turn the fan by hand does it turn freely?

a good addition would be an electric fan.... in my opinion.

Welcome to FTE

Since you are a you posted this question in the wrong forum.

Suggest you read thru the forums list till you come to the LARGE TRUCK forum, post this question there.

FTE has several big truck mechanics that hang out in this forum, are better qualified to answer this question than members that own 45 + year old trucks that do not have onboard computers and other electronic jazz that operate everything.

As a former motor home mechanic, I'd have to agree with Bill W(the first one). Electric fans would be my solution to the problem.
One question, was the fan clutch you put on it a Ford piece or did you pick it up at Auto Zone or some similar place? If it's aftermarket, I'd replace it with the factory piece. Sometimes it ain't worth the money to buy cheap parts, especially if you're trying to push a 10 ton brick down the freeway at 80mph.

Thanks The clutch is ford its new to. The only way I have been able to cool it at 2500 rpm is, take the heat spring on the front of the fan and rotate it 180 dagrees were it comes in early.

I guess I'm crazy, but if the problem happens at high speeds(mph), I would NOT be thinking airflow problem.

If you were having cooling problems at low mph or sitting still, I would be all for thinking airflow problem, but you're not.

This is the problem, I took the thermal spring on the front of the clutch fan rolled it 180 degrees were it would come early. This keeps the rv cool all the time. This is why I thought it had a problem with air flow.

In that case, I'd agree, airflow problem. The fact that it stays cool with a modification to the fan clutch might indicate that the fan clutch you bought, even though it was from Ford might not be the right one for the application. Ain't *every* parts guy that's perfect.
List the exact specs of the truck here, someone might know what part you need.
