Free flow muffler

I know this has been kicked around here soemwhat, but I want to open up the exhaust of my Navigator (in my sig below) with a free flow muffler.

The thing is I dont want it to sound loud while cruising at highway speeds pulling my travel trailer. I would like stock quiet or very close to it at highway speeds.

Anyone got any ideas or have a muffler system that they installed that accomplished this?

Thanks in advance

I like my Magnaflow muffler. It has a nice little rumble, never bothered me on the highway a bit. I am taking another 700 mile road trip this weekend.

I just went out to summit racing and bought a magnaflow 2.5 inch in/out muffler ($80) and a nice stainless steel tip ($50) and ran out to the local muffler shop and had them bend a 2.5 inch pipe for me ($100) and had them install everything for me. The magnaflow sounds great and the tip looks awesome. Buying the parts seperatly was a lot cheaper than buying the magnaflow kit ($550). It does not drone in the cab like a chambered muffler would, but it can get loud when you get into the throttle but not obnoxious and at cruising speed it is hardly noticeable.

See I want the extra power associated with the free flow mufflers but dont want the extra noise while towing my travel trailer with the truck.

What do you all think, can I get a free flow muffler that wont drone in my ears while on the highway?

The problem with muffler choice is that I don't know what you consider to be "drone". I was thinking about it on my trip some and I can always hear my exhaust. I suppose some would call that "drone". If you do not want to hear the exhaust on the highway at all, you had better stay stock.

Climbing the passes my truck needs to be out of OD and running 2500 rpm. It is making some noise under load for sure. It is going to depend on your driving conditions and tolerance for exhaust noise.

Back in my Dodge diesel days, the guys that wanted flow and quiet would fit a large 51" long straight through muffler made by Donadlson for big trucks. It was a 4" in and out so probably not directly applicable to your truck. Those guys seemed happy with it. I personally liked the no muffler option on that truck

The OE muffler actually flows really well,so there's not much to be gained by an aftermarket muffler. But,if you want one that will be quiet, there are a couple of options. I used a Magnaflow XL series stainless muffler on our old Navigator. It's a turbo style muffler with chambers for sound dampening, but has large diameter flow tubes to help prevent restrictions. I used part #13749 on ours and it was a good compromise. More flow than stock, very little noise over stock.
