I am wanting to upgrade from the OE wheel/tire combo (225/75/16) on my 06 E350 to something that offers more stability and performance. In searching for aftermarket wheels what is a good backspacing/offset for wider wheels. I am looking at Nitto terra grapplers LT285 50 20 on a 20x8 or 20x9 wheel, dont mind trimming a little. I know its not a load E tire but it will never tow or haul much, just a few kids.
well I have changed up my gameplan after finding a deal on a 16x8 wheel. Does anyone know if a 275 70 16 (31.2") will fit an 06 E350? It measures a little shorter than a 265 75 16 (31.6") and I have heard mixed reviews on whether or not those rub. I will probably put in a set of airlift bags up front to help. Overall looking to stuff the widest tire possible.
well I got a good deal on a set of 255/70/16s last night. Not as wide as I wanted but definitely a huge improvement. I am mounting them tonight and will try to get photos up of the finished look. I dont expect any rubbing issues but I guess you never know til they are on.
side shots of the goodyear wrangler MT/Rs on MB Motoring 16x8 wheels. roughly 4.5 inch backspacing. The rear will need 1.5 spacers to bring the rear even with the front. Tires are 255/70/16 Load C. They handle better than the load E michelin 225/75/16s. those things were rock hard. only downside to the MT/R is noise. I will get some close ups later today.
