well here is my problem, I need a water pump, hands down, but witht he recent discussion I am hesitant about which one to get. I have not had any personal bad experience with a pump from autozone, and I like a lifetime warranty, but I want a pump that will last, I don't want to become an expert at changing pumps every 5k miles regardless of warranty. Ed has the 7.3 pumps from Blue Diamond for basicly the same price at the box stores, and I know Ed is the man, but every time I cross reference parts for a 2000 and a 1997 the same part number surfaces so I believe the pump he has for a 99-03 will work fine, so given the options, what would you do??
The only good part I ever got from autozone was a set of rear coil springs for an old buick. Every moving or electrical part has been junk. PURE JUNK! go somewhere else. Those idiots can't even look up the correct wiper blades for my truck.
Changed my pump about 2 years ago and 17K later no issues, dry as a bone. At the same time I put in the 203 stat. I purchased it from Checker/Schucks/ Kragen/Orilly auto parts .. Schucks brand store is about the only local place here, except NAPA. Part number is CP4114 and brand is Master Pro Select. It comes with the lower neck and is about $150.
Do not buy those cheap water necks in a box marked murray from auto zone or any of the others. Last year they gave me three in a row with crappy welds at oreilleys. I ended up rewelding the last one and giving up. I'm buying the rest of my parst from Ed probably after the screwing Oreilleys gave me this past week.

True, I did too on the upper neck. It sucked big time and since my original was in good shape just cleaned it up and reinstalled it.
I got about 110K out of a NAPA replacement with the integrated lower neck. The last pump I put on was an Autozone (got about 20K no problem yet) but if I had had the time it would have been a Blue Diamond from Ed
