Ok, this is such a newbie question, but I just have to ask. I'm picking up a '79 Bronco next week after the obligitory waiting period after a Lean-sale. It is my first Big Bronco (the '84 with 8.8 rear doesn't count ). What I want to know is it 31 spline rear. I've found conflicting info. I know the earlier F-150/F-100 4x4 came both 28 and 31. But some sources say that starting in '78 the F-100/F-150/Bronco 4x4's got 31 spline only.
This Bronco is a Custom with 351M, 4-speed stick, and it appears to only have the 25 gallon tank, since it doesn't have the skid plate and seems smaller than the 32 gallon tanks I've seen around.
I've heard that Bronco's only came with 31 spline axles. If so, the only way it would have 28's is if somebody swapped them in, after tearing up the original stuff. I guess the only way to tell is to pull a shaft and count it. Good Luck
Believe me, I will be pulling axles and inspecting this thing top to bottom when I can legaly do it. for $378 I couldn't go wrong on a Bronco, even if all I can do is part it out. Hope not though. I want to be able to smog it then sawsall it. Then wheel the snot out of it
