Ok Brown Falcon, you are the perfect person to talk to...

We were talking about restoring it because it'll be mostly bady parts to do it, it's a dueley steup with no bed, Would it be better for us to convert to SRD instead so we can have a SRD bed? Do we have to modify the rear axle since it's narrowed?

They had 10 Lug wheels instead of 8, There are also leaf springs up front! The ride suck unless it loaded!

No it a heavyer frame and the cab mounted like our trucks! It just called cab and chassis because that how the came from factory and you could put a box, dump body, flat bed ect type bed on them.

I'm not sure on the rear gearing! I know I would be buying it and putting a dump body on it.

If you wanted to put a SRW axle or regular dually axle on it you would have to change the spring mounts. The cab/chassis frame is narrower so the leaf springs are closer together, also the axle is 4" narrower than the SRW axle.
You can put a regular bed on it with some modification. Cody (Rubberduck) put a SRW bed on his shortened cab/chassis pulling truck.

If I were you I'd keep the stock axle and keep it a dually and make a flat bed for it. Probably cheaper and easier. But I love flatbeds so that sways my vote a little.

Should be a regular E4OD like the 250's and 350's. Nothing special there, sorry...

Probably not 4.10's, but you would need to check the axle tag for the code.
The cab/chassis trucks usually had lower gears, might be 4.56's like Darin said, but a lot of them came with 5.13's. That's the only bad thing about keeping the rear axle if that's the case. Great for towing, but dont' expect to drive over 55.

We got a flat bed one In work going auction the end of this month. She has 216,000 with oil changed every 5,000 or so. Front ends a little lose but it a good truck! Cab will need some work. New seat, radio, carpet, ect. I can ask what they want for it!

It would have to be darn cheap, then you'd probably buy it!!! Too far away for me, Jersey's quite a road trip from good ol SD. If you want to check what they want, you never know............

We picked it up on Friday and have a few more questions. What's a PTO with the tank worth, we don't need to run hydraulics? that truck is loaded with wire and realys for the dump bed setup, Would it be better to get rid of it all and finding the wiring from a HD truck?

It's a workhorse for sure, and rides like a buckboard.
Probably 5:13, or 4:56 at best.

A regular or dually bed will bolt on, but look really funny. Wheelbase is 3" longer than regular pick-up. I beleive the axle is the same width as the single wheel axles, it's the pick-up dually axles that are wider.
In the end, just keep the axle you have and plan on a dump bed, flat bed, etc.
...And hope you only have to drive it if you have at least 5 ton in the back to smooth out the ride....

I think we're going to try to find a 40' Gooseneck to pull 3 of our buggies.

I think it has a Dana 80 in the rear.
The turbo looks bigger to, you can tell cuz the spider's a little different.
