Thanks Thunder,
I allready got the adapter and flexplate from Destroked. I put them on so I could start it and check the oil-p. (65psi) They are of nice quility, But I had to grind on my engine block to mount the starter. (it is the starter they recomend) I just hope the C6 bolts up. (I dont have it yet.) I'm going to have that same outfit build mine that you used. It is going to be a small bell C6 because it's the same as an E40D. That way if I get to bogged down in this project, I could just throw the engine in my current Bronco. I have got alot done on the engine including the KDP fix. If I get a slow day at work I will upload some pics.
Does that vacume thing have electronics in it? I was thinking of haveing them just make the C6 a manual shift.
Dynamic Transmissions? Excellent, they built the C4 in my Mustang and the C6 in the Bronc and both are working well. Yeah, I remember having to grind down that weird casting on the side of the motor to clear the 6.0 Ford Starter used. No electronics on the VRV, it's just a metal shaft welded to the outside of the throttle plate, that twists a plastic tab inside the valve and regulates vacuum output from 6" to about 13". You can see it on my project thread.
Yeah, you could use manual shift, which is cheaper and simpler, of course, if you don't mind shifting it. If you go that route, I'd suggest a B&M ratchet shifter. I have one in my Mustang and it's worked great for 10 years now.
Oooo Ceramic, now you're getting fancy!
I wanna see it
p.s. when you talk to Dynamic, tell them Dan from NY highly recommended them, maybe they'll remember building my C6 for the diesel and build yours exactly the same. (I drove out and picked it up from them and it was pouring like hell and the guy stayed at the shop for a couple hours and waited for me, because I had trouble getting there)
The C6 shift governor from the early 6.9/7.3 app. takes a while to order from Ford, so let them know ahead of time that they'll need it, so you don't have to wait like I did.
When I was younger I had lots of time and no money. Now I have some money and no time. You guys make me make me depressed doing a job like that in just 25 days. As I said earlier, It's going to take me two years. I plan on a big tank. (70 Gals) I havent decided on guages yet. But I will definatly have pyro and boust.
You can pull everything out in a day. Getting the transmission and engine in is pretty simple too. Maybe a weekend of work. Its just working out all the small stuff that takes a while. That is a huge fuel tank
I plan on a big tank. (70 Gals) I havent decided on guages yet. But I will definatly have pyro and boust.
70 gallons?? You going to vacation on the moon or what? And the roundtrip would only be about half a tank.
One thing about diesel fuel in a big tank. It's much worse to let it sit in a tank than it is to let gasoline sit in a tank. Make sure you're going to use all that fuel..
I want to be able to drive to work and back to to my folks and back on one tank. (when a hurricane comes through, you often cant find gas.) Both trips are about 400 miles. My current Bronco has a 40 gal tank and I made a 50 gal aux tank. But I dont like it in the cab with me. (especially gas) I intend to seperate this tank. I'm hoping that the millage will give me more range than my current setup.
Assuming your 4bt gets 20mpgs which is a low estimate I believe. A 70 gallon tank will give you a 1400 mile travel distance. 25mpg=1750miles. I think you will be able to get away from every hurricane. Would definitely make road trips easy when you only need to fill up before you leave
Got the exhaust back from HPC and put the engine back together. Had a few minor problems. Nothing that time and money cant fix. LOL
The air cleaner location is not finalized.
Of course after I paid $100 to coat the turbo charger exhaust housing, I found out that there is a simple way to improve performance. Change the exhaust housing to a slightly smaller one! I decided to install the engine stock and then start modifing.
My origenal plan was to swap in the Dana44 solid axle and upgrade the 8.8 like my 90' Bronco DD. (installing a full float kit and building a truss) But after checking prices, I found a pair of Dana60's for less than the full float.
The front diff is apsolutly massive. It is off a newer Superduty and is practicly a bolt in for a 80' or newer truck. The rear is off an old F250. I will have to change the spring perches and lug pattern to match the front. Since I got it for free. ($50) I may change to a newer Sterling if I can find one for the price of a Disc conversion. ($350)
Badass! I like the color..
That air cleaner location might be a bad thing if you ever needed to ride through some deep water.
I moved my battery to the driver side, and mounted a big K&N air filter using the same integral nuts that the passenger side battery tray used. I will post pics whenever my lousy Sprint phone decides to upload them.
Man that engine is beautiful. I would trade the rear D60. They arent that strong. The sterling would blow that d60 out of the water. Just a tip. Maybe putting in a 3200 rpm spring while the engine is out would be much easier. I think it requires you to pretty much pull the whole pump. Just something to think about.
