I think you are seeing the light here. You should choke the salesman. He sold you a line of BS. The only worse salesman for this type of deal is the fifth wheel salesman. He would have told you a half ton would pull that trailer. I would be considering a re-thinking of my order, using a different salesman, maybe the Sales Manager. Your allies here are a safety pitch to your wife and an outline of what your modifications to the F350 SRW will cost.
I had a funny feeling. I once heard "Happy wife, Happy life" I am not sure I agree. I won't be too happy if I ordered a truck that won't pull the trailer. Is there any way to compensate the Single Rear Wheel limitations with suspension upgrading? I think that the tires should handle the weight. I can also try to find a way to upgrade brakes with F450 or 550 brakes. Although with the engine/exhaust brake, it should help out with load control. I think that I am going to find my salesman and choke him.
there is only one axle bearing per side, and one tire per side.
something about that makes the manufacturer limit the weight..
on my DRW the GVWR is 13000, and my GAWR for the rear is 9000.
Thank you for all your replies. I guess I have some issues to work on.
How do the dually trucks handle mud and snow and ice?
4x4 better than 4x2 of course..
they have less weight on each tire (per sq inch), so they won't have as much grip on ice.. I don't know where that line is..
I wish I had the 4x4 on my dually.. got stuck in my back lot once already this year.. have road tires, not mud. I am looking to switch to a 4x4 srw/drw right now because of that.. I don't want to be limited on where I go...
The two wheel drive duallys are terrible in the slick and sticky stuff. My brother has had both. When I was looking at dually trucks he advised me to stay away from 2wd duallys. We live in Michigan so the slippery stuff gets here every year.
Just talked to a guy running this system on a SRW Dodge 3500. He loves it. He hauls boats across Canada. He is consistently pulling 20,000lb 5th Wheels all the time and told me he quit running DRW years ago when the Trucks started upping the ratings on the SRW's. He told me that winter driving with a Dually is terrible, even with 4x4 and weight in the back. Dealership will not change my order for truck because I ordered Dual Alternators and Cab Clearance lights and it is a fully loaded Ultra Lariat Black with a grey stripe. MSRP is over 80 grand. They figure it may be hard to sell.
Has anyone ever seen or had any experience with this kit?
Tires concern me. Your pin weight is high. A dual wheel truck would be a better choice. Buy wheels and put single snows on the DRW truck in winter if it bothers you (assuming your municipality doesn't write tickets for that).

I agree. I am not worried about chassis or brakes.. but the tires worry me.. just no margin for error..
