First oil change with my 94 f250

Well ive had this truck maybe a month and did my first oil change in it,,, I was thinking i came across a thread saying that the 94 dipstick was not correct, ive heard you put in 16 quarts, Well i only drained the bottom and changed the filter, Ive heard it holds a quart in the motor you can drain but i didnt do this, Well when i put the oil back in i put in one 2.5 gallon jug which would be 10 quarts . I then i started to poar in a gallon jug that i had bought but it came up to the full mark and i believe i have about a quart left in the gallon jug,, Now that would only be around 13 quarts ,, is this correct or is the dipstick not showing right????

Did you pre-fill the oil filter? Have you started it and let it idle a bit yet? The oil filter can hold over a quart. You'll be fine to start it up at 13 quarts and then check it again after the oil settles back down on the dip stick.

It is always a good idea to prefill the oil filter if possible.

The filter can hold almost 2 quarts, I always fill mine up at least 3/4 of the way and then install it and fill the rest of the truck. Mine usually takes about 15 qts total including the oil in the filter.

i know what your talking about! i had a 95 powerstroke before this truck and it took a sold 4 gallons of oil every time and then another quart or so for the filter. now in my silver truck it takes about 12 quarts in the pan and another for the filter, this truck saves me money on oil some how....
