Reprogramming computer to go with Replacement Fuel Tank
I replaced the diesel fuel tank for my 2009 F250 (6.4L) with a Transfer Flow 47 gallon model. It helped a lot on a trip pulling a 5th wheel from VA to South Dakota last month (considering how much it likes fuel). The only issue I'm having is the trip computer gives info (miles to empty) based on the old 30 gallon tank. Does anyone know how to reprogram the trip computer to reflect the larger fuel tank?
Thanks Sam. I'm learning to live with it. When the computer shows "0" miles to empty I know I have at 8-9 gallons fuel left when I'm towing. I'll need to check how many are left when I'm not towing.
As far as I know there is no fix for this. The dealer I bought my truck from has worked with me a lot on this and they have tried everything. They even replaced one of the modules from a long box truck for free to try to help me, it didnt.
My Low Fuel message will come up with a 1/4 tank left, and it says 50 miles to empty. I have lived with it since 07 and I will continue to do so.
Senix, the fule level guage reads normally, and I have verified this with the Dash Daq. When my 50 miles to empty message comes up it shoes 27% fuel reading on the DD and the guage is right around 1/4, and it took about 12.5 gallons to fill it. So the guage reading is accurate.
I'm new to having a diesel truck and just got the 5th wheel this year too. I see you have a lot of upgrades on your F350. My F250 did a good job towing the camper (about 9,500 lbs) but have been wondering what upgrades I should consider first for handling and anything that might help with the mileage (only got 9 mpg when towing - a lot of hills out west). Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Well as far as a MPG gain, I am not sure what you are looking to see or what how heavy you tow. I am towing about 9500-10k now with the trailer I have and I see about 11 mpg.
I think the SCT tuner has been the mod. that helped the most with fuel mileage, but remember tuning CAN cause issues so if you have a warranty dont do it unless you are prepared to pay. I think the best thing you can do is frequent maintence. I change my oil every 4 months or 4k, use only synthetic, and fuel filters about every 7k. I know its overkill but its my money and my investment so to me its worth it.
As far as handling, I did the Bilstien leveling kit, dual shock kit from rough country, Bilstien 5100's on all 4 corners, and Fire Stone Ride Right Bags in the rear with on board compresor. These made the biggest difference. This was all done in stages so you can do it that way too. Any other assistance let me know.
