So i have come to find since there was not a c-6 390(which i got from a 1973 ranger f100/f150) combo in 1965 f100's i dont know what driveshaft to use. Our 65 swb f100 had no engine, transmission or driveshaft. Any one have any idea what driveshaft i can use or am i gonna have to have one made? yikes $$$$$
I put a 302/c6 in my '61. Used the driveshaft out of my long bed '82 donor truck and had it cut down to fit. Cost me like $65 including 2 new u joints. If your donor hasn't got a shaft, find one in a junk yard with the C6 yoke and have it cut to fit.
You may want to decide if you like a short or long bed and get rid of one of the trucks. Trying to build a truck out of 2 ol beaters will get the best of you.
Plan on 3-5 years to complete a nice truck, there will be periods when you get frustrated and not touch it for weeks on end, other times you wont have the money.
do your homework before you select a shaft. especially if u have one made about 70" is as long as i would go and when you install it you should check your driveline angles and figure the u joint angles. more than one degree difference can cause a vibration. not to scare you many time angle can be adjusted by moving up and down carrier bearings or rear trans mounts or degree shims under the axle if needed.
I think mine is a shaft from early to mid 90s ranger 4cyl 5 speed. Of course I have the c6 slip yoke on it. Needed to be 1/2 to 1 inch longer to be perfect.
I replaced the original COM tranny with a C6 behind my 352. I had to shorten the front half of the original d-shaft about 2". It'd be pure luck to find one that would bolt up. Just plan on having one modified.
