I have an 89 that was leaking off the turbo. The oil isnt coming off the back of the engine down the valleypan anymore. It looks like most of it is in and around the fuel pump area. I have pressure washed it and didnt see where it was coming from. Do these have a HPOP?

Reason: incorrect
I did notice it looked like it was coming from the block at the fuel pump, but I wasnt sure if that was just the fan blowing the oil. Do you have to drain the oil to change the gasket? It is not coming from the valve cover.
Been a long time since I changed a fuel pump, but as I recall I don't think I drained the oil first. Thinking about it, it mounts up on the side of the block (cast iron area), and the oil will all be down in the oil pan, so nope, no need to drain the oil.
Make sure you take the pump off slowly though, and note the angle the pump arm is at, and it goes back the same way, it is possible to get them installed the wrong way, and if it happens, can cause some damage as I understand it. (There's two different arms on the pumps depending on the age, and not sure if it applies to both styles or not.)
Make sure you clean the gasket area well, and a bit of RTV or similar certainly wouldn't hurt. The gasket itself should only be a few bucks at any parts place.
