Have you tried to bypass the dual tank valve and see if maybe the mileage picks up any? Before you go fiddling with other stuff Ide get that issue squared away. When mine did it I went on one long drive and it emptied the tank at an alarming rate then I switched to the front tank and there it all was lol. Get that sorted out and THEN worry bout the rest. I hear ya on gettin it fixed quick, just find a couple fuel filters and use them to connect the two hoses and then cap the ones you dont use. Either that or just order up the right part and swap it and get both your tanks back. Good luck!

A buddy of mine has a 93 and the tanks have had a cross flow problem since 94 or 95.. His front tank dumps to the back, so he (the cheapskate that he is) just fills both tanks, used the rear one first, then the front, then switches back to the back one and has about 1/3 tank full for reserve... At least he don't loose any on the ground that way..
That would get on my nerves big time, but, like I said he is a cheap Bas*ard!!!!
genosis8703: Sorry for getting on your case earlier!!!! Quitting smoking is gonna loose me all my friends, or get me killed!!!!!

well i checked the timing on the truck and its where it needs to be. i keep getting the converter clutch error when i check the codes. i went ahead and ran off the back tank untill it was on E and im going to run in the front tank and when it gets low im going to see if there is more fuel in the back tank. i dont want to go replaceing anything untill i know for a fact what it is. so far ive:
-replaced the spark plugs, wires, cap, and rotor
-put half a can of seafoam in the tank and the other half in the intake
-checked timing
-checked for vacuume leaks
im just hoping that i dont have to replace the converter because of the 62 code. the trans has a pretty good leak so somewhere in the back of my head im hoping if i replace the trans filter and seal it will fix the problem
sorry White 97 xlt im going to have to be that cheap ******* untill i sell my camaro
a little update. while working near the truck staining some cabinets i kept smelling gas when there was a breeze. i felt around the seam on the front tank and sure enough when i pulled my finger out they were moist and smelt like gas. so im leaking gas from the front tank. ill be ordering one within a few days. i also want to get rid of the clutch fan and get an electric one. that should help my MPG some. so far im getting 100 miles per tank both tanks are 16 gal. there still seems to be a slight miss. when i start the truck in the morning it runs perfect no shutter.. nothing. but after getting to operating temp when you sitting at idle you can catch a quick shutter but its sporatic. but when your driving the truck has no loss in power and runs strong. also the 7 mpg im getting is mostly city driving. sound about right? while driving in the rain the other day i ended up getting a lean code 41 is came on for about 10 seconds then went off and hasnt come back. going to order a fuel filter tomorrow sii if that could be my shutter problem.
You have to disconnect the SPOUT when setting the timing, a timing around 12 (14 at most) BTDC will work great for you, since you have all new ignition, the sparkplugs should be gapped at .055. As for the fuel tanks, get plastic replacements, they won't rust away ever.
i have the timing set to where it should be from the factory.
That's not what was asked, the spout plug disables computer advance and if you didn't remove it to set the base timing then it's very retarded right now and you're going to be way down on power.
Yeah warm up the motor then pull the little grey plug called the spout. Set your timing with this plug removed then when your done, plug it back in and your done.

i know its not what was asked. i was relpying to his post saying the timing is where is needs to be. i stated above that i have already checked the timing. but advancing the timing would help my MPG? i know it would help with performance but usually the rule of thumb is if you want more MPG you sacrafice performance and if you want performace you sacrafice MPG.
fuel tank came in yeasterday so that will go in within the next week. i put in a new fuel filter and the truck has been running great. just running off the back tank ive been getting 8.7 MPG with city driving. does that sound about right for city driving? also when im on the highway i can actually see my gas gauge moving. once i go 50 miles im at half a tank.
Also for the sake of not starting a new thread i also bought an ac compressor because the last owner said it locked up on him. when i checked to see if the old compressor was getting power there was no power to it. i looked everywhere for a relay but i cant find it. where is the relay to the ac compressor on these trucks? tried searching ac compressor relay on here and got nothing.
