I changed my oil for the 1st time at 3K now the truck is at 7K and the change oil soon memo comes up every time I start it.my question is how does the truck determine when oil should be changed? I only have 4K on this oil,
(owners manual recommends 7.5K) the oil looks almost new yet and isn't down on the dip stick..
I think what Mr. Charlie is trying to tell you is you must not have reset the oil life indicator after the first oil change. Instructions on how to do so are in your owners manual. Its very easy, really. Oh, and I have the A.D.D. thing also...wait where was I? lol
I READ IT COVER TO COVER!!!!! Really I did
well I tried but there's so many pages and I have adult A.D.D
Yeah - just messing with you. If you download an electronic copy you should be able to use the Adobe search function. Might make it easier to find what you're looking for.
BTW, Tim is right. And you don't have to select 7500 miles.
To reset the oil monitoring system to 100% after each oil change (approximately 7,500 miles [12,000 km] or six months) perform the following:
1. Press and release the SETUP control to display “OIL LIFE XXX% HOLD RESET = NEW”.
2. Press and hold the RESET control for two seconds and release. Oil life is set to 100% and “OIL LIFE SET TO 100%” is displayed.
Note:
To change oil life 100% miles value from 7,500 miles (12,000 km) or six months to another value, proceed to Step 3.
3. Once “OIL LIFE SET TO XXX%” is displayed, release and press the RESET control switch to change the Oil Life Start Value. Each release and press will reduce the value by 10%.
