Im going to look at a couple of tailgates at a salvage yard tomorrow to go on a '74 F100.
I want one that says 'FORD' on the actual metal. Ive noticed some trucks though that have a silver bar that says ford on it instead. If thats the only kind he has, whats behind the silver trim/bar?

The word Ford. All the tailgates started out as the same generic one. The "silver bar" is an option on the "Ranger" package and on up I believe. It just covers the stock badging.

Ah, thanks guys. Surface rust isnt that big of a deal though? As long as there are no holes as of yet showing?
Check the very bottom of the tailgate. There is no paint or primer on the inside of the tailgate, its just bare metal. Check the bottom to be sure its not rusting from the inside out.
