i have a 99 powerstroke f250 4x4 extended cab short with auto. my problem is at start of accel off a stop light, or rolling up to a stop, i can feel a knock/thud in the truck. almost feels like a loose leaf spring. what i have done is all new bushing in rear and front leafs/shackles. u-bolts and hardware are tight, new trans and motor mounts. new u-joints in front axle and u-joint rear drive shaft, front shaft out of truck. i have no idea what it is and truck been to dealer and cant figure it out.
Welcome to FTE, couple random ideas. Not sure if the ex-cab short beds have a carrier bearing on the rear driveshaft but if you do, check for play. Also, the lower shock mounts on the rear axle are bolted with u-bolts around the axle tubes. Check to see if they are loose.

Chris yeah they got carrier bearing in SC short bed....
the truck does not have a carrier bearing, the shock mounts are good, seems that the rear diff has good play but do not have spec. the rear drive shaft slip yoke seems ok and does move ok, but goin to put grease in it. also i forgot to say that the problem only occurs when warm out side, in winter and fall it will not happen.

I didn't think it was possible to have a slip joint without a carrier bearing to support the forward shaft. Am I missing something here?
There has to be a slip joint somewhere on the driveshaft or it will bind up when the rear axle moves up or down. It is on the transmission tail shaft if there is no carrier bearing.
