I have a 2006 f150 which has the roush package 20" rims. I want to down size to 18"s but want to know the Max tire size I can fit on my xlt. I know I can fit 275s but I'm hoping for 285s or 295s without a lift. ???
The 295's will end up rubbing without at least a leveling kit. You should be able to slide the 285's in there without any rubbing but I am not making any promises. It will depend on a few things one is what kind of tires to are putting in? Two what kind of rims you are going with? The non-stock rims make the tire sit in a different place and could end up rubbing on the 285's. And third it will also depend on if you go with 285/70, 285/65, or 285/75's. Yes they are all 285's but the second number can change the overall size of the tire. I have on my truck 285/65/18 Nittos and I could of put these tires on without the leveling kit but I wanted the kit as well for when i get my new wheels.
Ok. Yeah I plan on going with nittos for tires and I am looking at the KMC Rockstar 18"s. I was looking at going with 285/65s so I guess I will have to go with at least a leveling kit to get 295/60(65)s.
Yeah you will. There are several kits out on the market I think mine was a total of about $550 parts and labor and that included alignment after the kit was installed. Now I went with the Ready Lift kit so that was a bit more then some other kits on the market but I have been thrilled with it.
Also you will be very pleased with the Nitto's they are a great tire on these trucks. I have the Terra Grapplers and could not be more happy. great on and off road performance.
285's is possible but 295's are denitely not possible for that truck without a lift. You can have a decent lift of 2" to 3" for your truck.Good Luck.!!!
I just put 295/70/18 Terra Grapplers on stock rims for my 2006 F150 4x4. Installed a Ready-Lift 2" leveling kit at the same time. It looks great, and have experienced no rubbing.

This is the size I wished I had put on my truck it is just about 2" bigger then the 285/65/18's that I have. You shouldn't experience any rubbing until you get into the 355's on the Nitto's if you put on a 2-3" leveling kit.
I have an 07 XLT and just went through the same thing. I kept the stock 17" rims I was told I could fit up to a 285 70 R17 without doing any modifications I could of fit a 305 70 R17 but was told I would get some rubbing when turning. I ended up putting 265 70 R17 on I got the Gooodyear Duratrac. Nice looking tire aggressive looking which is what I wanted. I wish I would of went up to the 285 instead of the 265 but compared to the stock 255 Generals which were crap they are a nice upgrade. I know down the road I am going to put a 3" leveling kit on and put some 35's on this truck.
Yeah I am having that problem right now in that I wish I had put the 295/70/18's on my truck instead of the 285's. I am actually having my shop hunt around for someone to buy mine off of me so that I can change to the bigger tire. They only have about 1,500-1,800 on the tire now so he said he should be able to find someone for them. But I would of saved myself a lot of time if I had just put the bigger ones on to start with.
How do you like the ready lift leveling kit I have been shopping around and they seem to be one of the more expensive kits. But the most popular. There are so many out there its hard to determine which one to go with. Did you have to add the 1" blocks in the rear or did you just do that to get a little extra lift? Right now I am looking to add a brush guard and winch to my front end.
I love the ready lift kit. Yes it is a little bit more then some of the kits on the market but come on do you really want to go cheap on your truck. I would stick with either Ready Lift, Daystar, Autospring, or Skyjackers. Since I put the 3" kit on the front it put it just above the rear so my shop added the rear blocks for me at no cost. But that was only because they had an extra set left over from another install. But now that it is on I love the rear block gives it a nice height to the truck without going over board.
I had a brush guard on my jeep for a like 6 years I think and I loved it but I am leaning towards a bull bar for my truck.
