I'm looking to put in a starter cut off switch to my 2010 Screw. I want to mount a toggle switch somewhere under the dash. This is something I have always done in my previous cars and trucks but it was a lot easier back in the day when the started solenoid was on the inner fender next to the battery. Now the solenoid is connected to the starter and I am having trouble tracing the wire to the top side where I can tap into it. I don't want to mess with the fuse box with its mass of wires.
This is something I like to do above and beyond an alarm.
Has anyone here tried this?
I'm not really sure of the rationale for such an installation (Ford anti-theft device is standard now and apparently is quite effective) but I'm sure you have your reasons.
I think the easiest would be the lead wire from batt to starter to cut in to.
But, if it's just a switch you are installing,I don't see the security measure. Anyone can flick the switch.
Perhaps if you identified the use for the switch it may make it more clear.

The switch would be hidden under the dash.
I am looking for something beyond the anti theft ignition. It would be one more thing to slow down a thief. It worked for me once in the past and ever since I have put one in every car I have owned.
The main power wire from the battery to the starter is to thick. 6 or 8 gauge. In the past I would just tap into the solenoid and run a couple wires through the firewall and mount it somewhere near the steering column under the dash.
Also I plan on installing an alarm soon with remote start and the anti theft ignition has to be disabled. If the alarm is compromised the truck would be able to be started without the key.
Well as far as alarms go, my own personal impression is they upset neighbours from inadvertant firings far more than they subvert theft. Perhaps that's just my experience though. If you find that alarms actually work, I congratulate you.
As far as wiring in a switch, perhaps simply cutting into the starter ground wire (about 12 gauge) would be sufficient.
Unfortunately, all of the above does little to protect our vehicle from a frustrated cretin who, upon finding it difficult to steal a vehicle, elects to trash it. Many bad people out there.
Alarms can actually work, if you don't put the vibration sensors on them. Trigger them off the doors (any thief is going to pop a window then rip a door open... these days most go after the door locks anyway) and they don't false.
Personally, disabling the starter itself requires dealing with big power. Check out an alarm install site (the12volt.com) and see what alarms are using to disable the ignition switch and just kill that line.
Finally, good alarms do NOT require disabling the PATS module. They have modules that you program into the truck and they only activate when the remote start is attempting to crank the vehicle.
